Finishing The Map

XII. Finishing The Map. At this point, the map is pretty much finished. You can now turn off the "cmp_tracing" layer and turn on all the rest. It is also a good idea to lock all the layers so you don't accidentally move or delete something while you are admiring your work. Here is a portion of the finished version of the Fulford B-Survey map:

There is copy of the finished map in SVG format here.

I've tried to cover all the basic tasks involved in drawing a map in Inkscape. Of course almost everybody will have different ideas about how the map should be laid out, what symbols should be used and what details to include. The techniques outlined in this tutorial should allow you to create just about any style imaginable.

Inkscape Special Effects. There are lots of Inkscape tools and special effects that I didn't explore or use in this tutorial.  Many of them would add nice touches to cave maps. I encourage you to explore the many internet Tutorials and Forums on Inkscape. If you find any useful tricks or techniques, I encourage you to share them with people on the Compass Users Group.
